The Lease Sr Accountant is responsible for Lease Accounting and all other accounting related to real estate leases. Recommends the proper accounting treatment for new/modified lease arrangements, and owns the month end financial close process for lease accounting.

Responsible for analysis of information from the third party lease accounting system and input into the financial system of record. This individual is the primary point of contact for the third party lease administrator, the real estate team, and financial reporting and analysis team.
  • Perform monthly financial close process, prepare monthly activities including journal entries related to lease expenses and accruals for the lease portfolio.
  • Perform pre-close analysis and post-close reconciliation on the lease portfolio
  • Coordinate with business partners to obtain fair value, discounts rates, and other data necessary to perform new lease classification testing
  • Review new or amended lease agreements in detail and validate all related data within the lease accounting system
  • Analyze and explain variances from budget and prior year
  • Prepare lease footnote schedules for external financial reporting purposes
  • Prepare reports to support all lease accounting disclosure requirements for the Company's external filings with the SEC
  • Ensure SOX compliance by adhering to internal control requirements, maintain updated documentation and providing recommendations as appropriate
  • Maintaining lease accounting policies and procedures

Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Experience: 5-7 years of experience, specifically in the areas of Lease Accounting
  • Ability to work and function independently, prioritize and manage multiple tasks/assignments and consistently meet deadlines
  • Certification: CPA or CPA candidate preferred

Critical Skills & Attributes
  • Possess practical experience/ working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting
  • Familiarity with researching accounting guidance, including lease accounting
  • Retail industry experience
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other associates and outside vendors and maintain the highest level of company integrity
  • Proficiency in PeopleSoft Financials and Microsoft Office products
